The Association gratefully acknowledges the very generous support of Mr and Mrs J. A. Pye's Charitable Settlement over the past 14 years. This support has enabled the Association to offer its services to many more sufferers, who otherwise we might not have been able to reach.

Donations are our only source of income, every donation, however small is both urgently required and very much appreciated.

The Association is a registered Charity committed to raising money to support research into postnatal illness.  All funds received above the running costs of the Association are devoted to research.

You can become a supporter of the Association for as little as £5 per year for this you will receive two newsletters per year and information about PNI.  If you are thinking of becoming a supporter please give generously and make any cheques payable to APNI.

For information, we have applied to the National Lottery on two occasions and have been refused.

1 in 10 of all mothers develop depression after childbirth to such a degree that psychiatric treatment and prolonged drug therapy are required. Over 100,000 women develop this illness in the UK every year. The illness can last for many years if it is not treated but it does readily respond to treatment, particularly if this is started early.

Our organisation offers women who suffer from postnatal illness information, advice and support. The Association for Postnatal Illness is the leading specialist organisation in its field and we reach over 9,000 sufferers and their families every year.

The Association relies on the work of over 800 volunteer supporters all around the country. These women, who have previously suffered from postnatal illness, offer advice, encouragement and time to mothers who have the illness. The volunteers give sufferers reassurance that they will recover and help to minimise the disruption that the illness can cause to family life. The volunteers are backed up by our trained office staff and our medical experts.

Recent research has shown that postnatal illness not only affects the mother, it can also have a lasting effect on the intellectual development of her young baby. Therefore, helping a woman during this dreadful illness means that we not only help the sufferer but her baby too.

Our work is vital to support the lives of many affected families, If you can help in any way please contact us.
